Okay when I mean "push you off the roof", I literally mean it. I will push you off the roof. Why must I push Dylan off the roof? Simple, it's the easiest way to teach him to fly. You know that saying; you got to run before you can walk? Well it's the same thing except with wings.
"Max, you aren't really going to push me off of here are you?" Dylan was looking down at the canyon from one corner of the roof. I walked over to him and gave him a few pats on the back, which almost made him fall off roof.
"Oh come on, the easiest way to teach you is through practice. Besides, I'm not pushing you off over the cliffs, well not yet anyway." I grabbed his shoulders and led him to the other side, "I'm going to push you off here first." Dylan looked down; below us was solid ground along with some bushes and trees. "So let's see what you can do." I pushed my hands forward into Dylan's back, catching him off balance and off the roof. Well let's just say it wasn't a perfect landing considering that he was flapping his wings like a mad man causing him to land in a nearby tree. I could hear some laughs coming from the flock inside, mainly from the boys and I couldn't hold back a laugh myself.
"Max. I don't think pushing me is going to work." Dylan had climbed back up to the roof, picking the sticks and leaves out of his hair. "Don't you have any tips or something?"
"Tips, well first off don't flap your wings constantly. You'll tire yourself out really fast that way. Second…" I placed my hands on his shoulders. For someone who looks calm all the time, his body was really tense. "You need to relax. If you're tense while in the air, well let's just say you'll end up like you just did." I realized that I still had my hands on his shoulders and quickly took them off. "All you have to do is picture yourself flying, believe in yourself. Now let's try again." Dylan nodded and started heading over to where I just pushed him, "Over here. We're going over the canyon this time."
"What? But I could die!"
"Well at least you'll die trying." I laughed seeing his confused look and started pushing him over to the side. Once at the edge I pushed him, "Off you go." Of course once off the roof Dylan began flailing about but I noticed that he started to get a hold of himself. I jumped off the roof and flew towards Dylan, "See, relaxing is the easiest way to fly." I saw Dylan smiling.
"I did it! I knew I could."
"Yep, now let's see how you land." Well Dylan's landing wasn't very graceful considering that he tripped on the balcony edge and ate it face first. But it's a start, I guess.

The missing Chapter - Max Ride
I looked at Dylan, my face crinkled in a scowl. He smiled nervously at me and I avoided his gaze. "Come over to the edge and spread your wings out." Peering over, I figured it would be a mere jump for me and I could be safe on the ground with one flap.
"Okay Max," Dylan responded. His wing tip gently brushed up against me and I felt chills go down my shoulder. I shook off the feeling.
The wind blew his golden hair around and I walked up behind him, "You need to build up the muscle
